Tmax Knocks on the Door of the Global Market,
Hedges Its Bets on Tibero 6
2015 marks an important year for
TmaxSoft, Korea's leading enterprise software company. After 4 years of
research and development, TmaxSoft has released Tibero 6, a large-scale DBMS
with vastly improved performance, security, and compatibility.
On March 25th, TmaxSoft hosted
“Tmax Day 2015” and invited key clients and partners to COEX Auditorium in
Seoul to showcase its next generation DBMS, “Tibero 6”, and several new big
data products. At its introduction, TmaxSoft unveiled its plan to place Tibero 6
in direct competition with Oracle in the global market.
TmaxSoft has set 2015 as the year for
overseas expansion with a goal of obtaining a 10% share of the global market. TmaxSoft
has already received significant interest from clients and the software sector
since its release of Tibero 6.
Tmax's optimism with its global market
prospects is thanks to Tibero 6. The latest version of Tibero is a direct
response to clients’ strong desire to avoid vendor-lock and its associated high
costs.
According to Tmax, “The current Korean
DB market is overly dependent on a single vendor and as a result faces issues with
modifying large number of applications, third-party integration, and
performance degradation. Compatibility between DBMS is one of the most
important DBMS functions, and the movement to find an alternative DBMS has been
gaining momentum.”
Furthermore, with the rapid increase in
large-scale RDBMS operations that must process large-scale data, maximizing the
efficiency of a DBMS is becoming a growing concern.
Moreover, with changes in laws and
regulations as well as ever-increasing complexities of managing massive data
and systems, the need for reliable DBMS performance with a high level of
security and systematic performance management is only increasing. Tmax sees these
changes as a positive in the market environment.
Tmax is emphasizing Tibero 6’s ability
to process large-scale data, extensive compatibility and support for easy
migration, security with guaranteed performance, and integrated performance management.
With its hyper thread architecture, Tibero 6 provides exceptional performance,
security, and compatibility.
Unlike Oracle, which uses a
multi-process architecture, Tibero 6 uses a cutting-edge multi-thread
architecture, which integrates with I/O multiplexing technology and minimizes
memory and disk I/O contention. As a result, Tibero 6 provides more efficient
and higher performance processing and optimized resource utilization.
According to the company, Tibero
improved its recovery time for large-scale data by employing a multi-node
parallel recovery method instead of a single node method during system failure or
routine maintenance. Tibero 6 also employs an efficient shared server structure
with minimal overhead compared to its competitors, resulting in higher
performance and a greater number of active sessions.
In addition, Tibero 6 provides an
automated migration tool with superior compatibility with other DBMS, and it
also provides superb integration with heterogeneous DBMS through flexible DB
link compatibility. Oracle requires manual migration for SQL, procedures, and
metadata when integrating with other DBs, but Tibero 6 uses its migration tool
to automatically migrate SQL, procedures, and metadata of various DBMS such as
DB2 and SQL server.
Tibero 6 allows applications developed
in other DBMS to run on Tibero without modification by using a SQL translation
framework function. Tibero also improved its compatibility with MS SQL server,
IBM DB2, as well as Oracle. When migrating DB2 or MS SQL server applications,
the applications are automatically converted by the SQL translation framework,
fundamentally eliminating the need to modify applications and the side effects that
can occur from modifying applications during DB migration.
When a user wants an application that uses
Oracle OCI (Oracle Call Interface) to use Tibero for certain tasks, both Oracle
and Tibero can be used concurrently by using the same OCI API without
additional application development. As for security, index range scan is
supported for TDE (Transparent Data Encryption) columns without performance
degradation. Integration with external solutions via Tibero’s EPL (External
Procedure Loading) guarantees up to 5X faster performance than through the EPA
(External Procure Agent) integration, allowing rapid decryption when Tibero is integrated
with an encryption solution.
Moreover, when attempting to externally
manipulate data in Tibero 6, a digital signature is required for modifying data
in TDE (Transparent Data Encryption) columns. This digital signature prevents
unauthorized data modifications and provides superior security.
TmaxSoft plans to provide 100%
compatibility with Oracle, an enhanced TAC (Tibero Active Cluster) function, improved
security, and improved integration of Tibero disk DB and in-memory for Tibero
7, which is set for release in 2016. This is a part of TmaxSoft's strategy to
provide a DBMS with consistent data processing for memory and disk data and
automatic data deployment at a whole new level.
