Nikkei, “Korean-born
Database Causing a Fury in Japan”
Nikkei Business
reported on January 27 that TmaxSoft Japan, in collaboration with Red Hat Japan,
will offer Oracle-compatible database software.
This month, TmaxSoft
plans to release a product that combines its software with Linux, Red Hat’s
basic OS, at half the current price. TmaxSoft’s database product, Tibero, is
over 90% compatible with Oracle database and is offered at half the license and
maintenance price of Oracle.
Tibero provides
features that are comparable to Oracle including high performance architecture for
distributed processing of large volumes of data. There are currently about 900
companies, centered around the Korean software market, that have adopted
Tibero.
TmaxSoft Japan, in
a joint effort with Red Hat Japan, is targeting companies who are currently using
Oracle and Windows for Tibero and Linux migration.
Red Hat recently
started the Red Hat OSS Integration Center to support migration to Linux. 50 IT
companies, including Fujitsu, NEC, IBM
Japan, and Hitachi, are currently participating in the center.
TmaxSoft Japan also
plans to use the Red Hat OSS Integration Center to help market its products to
large and mid-sized IT companies in Japan.
According to Nikkei
Business, the main targets will be the companies who are using Oracle and want
to reduce their system maintenance costs.
There are currently
four large companies in Japan that have adopted Tibero, and Tmax Japan, working
together with Red Hat Japan, is striving hard to expand this number to 2500
within this year.
