    Korea Railroad: Ticket Reservation System

    Overview
    To lead the way in the new ticketing service systems and maximize profits, the KORAIL ticket reservation system was established using an open system. The new system is intended to meet the performance and reliability requirements to handle the increasing number of reservations and the peak overloads during the busy holiday seasons in Korea.
    Project Results
    Achieved the mainframe-level reliability using the 3 tier architecture based on Tmax, TmaxSoft's TP monitor, and JEUS.
    Reservations were allowed only within one month of the scheduled date in the existing system. The new system allows booking up to one year in advance of the scheduled date through the Internet, customer service center, ATM, OLTP business window, or travel agency, which has helped to dramatically improve customer service.

    • Implemented train service management for last-seat availability, rates, travel guidance, customer, reservation, and ticketing.
    • Internet ticket reservation service was developed using WebtoB, TmaxSoft's web server, and JEUS, and the main business system was built using Tmax.
    • The new system should meet the performance and reliability requirements to handle the increasing number of reservations and the peak load of more than 0.2 million accesses during the big Korean holiday seasons. It should also provide customer service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
    • The number of simultaneous users during the peak periods (weekday, weekend) : 35,000~45,000, Korean big holiday seasons: more than 200,000.

    Overview
    To integrate and manage information of 20 million members for quick calculation, marketing, mass transaction processing, and non-stop services.
    Project Results
    The system was built using TmaxSoft products including JEUS, Tmax, AnyLink, SysMaster, ProFrame, etc.
    Through JEUS and WebtoB, the system ensures stability, performance, and integrity of the business logic.
    The system resolved data integrity problems by using unified data.
